Patcher
Ah, the good ol' Wizet patcher. I know you guys made one made for 'Maple Global' as it was called back then and i'd very much like to see it again. Although I feel 99% sure it will be implemented I felt that I had to mention it just in case as I haven't heard anyone talk about it.

16:9 aspect ratio (Wide Screen)
This is one of my most beloved features. Something I can live without but something I'd love to see. Whilst I hate to suggest things that aren't authentic to the true Maplestory experience™ The truth is that probably none of us have PC CRT's lying around. Most of us will either have to play the game stretched (gross) or with borders around the screen which is fine by me but cmon nothing beats seeing the whole gosh darn game on the screen.

At the very least i'd argue this to be an OPTION that wouldn't hurt anyone that wants to play the game in 4:3. As most of us probably knows OSM had a client where you could choose resolution. I set mine at 720p which works wonders for the game in my opinion. I know that certain backgrounds will look kinda crappy because of this but IMO It's worth it.

But what do you guys think? I'd like to hear other peoples opinions.

Voted Yes.

I'd love for the game to be supported in 720p as I absolutely loved it in OSM and is pretty much a standard thing nowadays on private servers. Big thumbs up.

Some of you will know that Wacky is a perfectionist. The question isn't if they're willing to. The question is if they can find a graphic designer that fits Wacky's criteria. Anyway, for the sake of this thread, I voted yes. Playing Maplestory on a 32'' monitor is pretty tedious without a 16:9 option.

Id like to have widescreen to. Even if I still play in fullscreen it stills feels good to have a bit higher aspectratio.

The server's client is capable of going widescreen. However...

Due to the artistic assets not being large enough... when the game is set to widescreen a lot of the assets end up not fitting and producing black areas where no texture/asset is shown.

Another issue with widescreen is that the user interface (HP/MP/EXP bar, chat, and other various buttons / UI elements) are designed to fit an 800x600 screen.

In order to circumvent this issue of the client looking like a hot mess when in widescreen, I would need a person who's artistically capable of modifying the user-interface elements to fit the widescreen arrangement better. If anyone is up to the task, then by all means let's get this show on the road and get widescreen capable for the server.

@Code was able to take a screenshot of what these issues look like. Take a look:

The statusbar itself (https://i.imgur.com/bHhEHum.png) isn't too bad to edit, getting the gauges to be wider wouldn't be too bad either, unfortunately the UI is the least of the worry, it's the hideous background elements that would require extensive work.
The sides in ice valley, sharp cliffs, and wolf territory maps (https://i.imgur.com/h1ZNOkK.png) and the lith harbor islands (https://i.imgur.com/jJ1ThlB.png) are prime examples. (Aqua used as an example of the sides because it has the same issue and I actually have a picture of it lol)
There are also the fields in the background of Henesys and such that wouldn't extend far enough down.

A lot of the sky background assets can be tiled, but using the wz tiling feature causes massive lag on some PCs, it's easy enough to make the image larger and manually tile it just enough though. Some (https://i.imgur.com/PoCNnOs.png) of the sky things don't quite look right with just tiling, but wouldn't be too annoying to fix.

Other things look good enough (maybe? the middle gets covered up by other bg parts in this example, so that part is fine) with some slight edits https://i.imgur.com/IsYwd7b.png vs https://i.imgur.com/CQVJTRA.png (this is just thrown together in photoshop and doesn't have any of the clouds etc that would normally be in the map to blend in with the clouds on the mountain, but you get the idea [and no, I didn't just make this for an example lol])

I'm sure there are so many more maps that look bad in high res, but despite this a lot of maps do look fine and don't need to be fixed.

It would be amazing if someone could do it though!

Custom resolution as well as background removal (used for luma keying) was one of my favorite features of OSM.
it allowed me to play 1440x2560 on a vertical monitor which was really cool.
